Career Outlook

Industrial distribution employs more than 3.3 million people in every state and province across the United States and Canada.  These jobs offer interesting challenges, good pay, good working conditions and great career paths.  And more than 1 million of those employees are in business-to-business sales positions -- providing solutions, building relationships, offering products and valuable services to industrial customers.

In the next five years, 180,000 new jobs will be created each year in technical and non-technical sales positions. However, there is a great shortage of skilled workers, and there are currently not enough people to fill these jobs.

The following graph demonstrates the number of jobs available in each occupation.  North America is in need of more industrial distributors than insurance agents.
