Project Details
Since 2000, the PTDA Foundation has spearheaded an alliance of
associations representing the industrial distribution channel to build
the Industrial Careers PathwaySM (ICP).
Originally focused on implementing an
industry-specific curriculum, the initiative has grown into a
comprehensive workforce development initiative.
The ICP Partner Alliance has adopted a phased
approach to accomplish our strategic objectives:
Phase I (2003-2005): Refine the Model
Phase II (2006-2008): Disseminate the Curriculum
-
Develop a strategy to help employers implement the
curriculum at local community colleges.
-
Launch an integrated marketing, communications and
public relations plan.
-
Facilitate networking among school programs and
Advisory Committee members.
-
Improve on-the-job training opportunities at industry
employers.
-
Lay the groundwork to help distributors and
manufacturers fundamentally improve how they attract, retain and promote
employees.
-
Connect employers with local economic and workforce
development agencies to promote industry careers while educating firms
about available resources to fund and deliver training to current
workers.
-
Evaluate a national credentialing program.
Phase III (2009-Future): Change the System
-
Continue to support existing sites and launch new
programs.
-
Create a system to engage youth (K-12) in industrial
distribution careers.
-
Define industrial distribution employment and
advancement opportunities for local and regional job seekers.
-
Influence industry companies to implement structured
training and advancement programs for current employees.
Our achievements to date have allowed us to
define success fundamentals to grow and sustain the pathway.
