Build Your Resume

Looking for some resume tips? We've got some here for you. Remember that each resume is as unique as the person writing it. It's important to do some research and make sure that yours best reflects your skills and experiences. Plus, once you're done perfecting yours, you can upload it to the ICP Job Board to find a position that's a great fit for you! 

Monster has some great sample resumes available. Reviewing a few of these is the perfect place to start:

Okay, now that it’s time to start drafting your resume masterpiece, here are a few tips:

  • Use Helvetica, Times New Roman or Garamond font in size 9-12
  • Choose a simple format that is easy to read on all computers
  • List jobs in reverse chronological order. Your most recent position should be listed first
  • Keep the personal information out of it. No pictures or mentions of marital status, kids etc...
  • Statistics are more impressive than fancy words. Tell them you increased revenue by 28% instead of forcing the words excelled and creative into your description
  • Double, triple, quadruple check for TYPOS!
  • Don’t lie about past experiences
  • Always have at least two friends or family members (or a teacher) read it over for you before you send it to an employer
  • Your resume is a living document, be sure to read and update it often.
