resourcesGreetings and welcome to Pathway. Pathway is an e-newsletter from Industrial Careers Pathway (ICP), the main project initiative of the PTDA Foundation, the charitable 501(c)(3) sister organization to the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA).

We thank you for your past support--and welcome your continued support--in making the best and brightest young people aware of the benefits of careers available to them in industrial distribution. We hope you will read through this e-newsletter to discover what ICP has done for you lately and to access a host of resources available for you to use now.

For more information about ICP or to get involved, please contact Mary Jawgiel, ICP Program Director, at +1.312.516.2100.

takeDo Your Children Know What You Do At Work?

Help the younger generation understand just what industrial distribution is by participating in Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day on April 26. This is a national event celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Why not take this opportunity to tout industrial distribution as a career to your own children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or those of your employees, co-workers, friends or neighbors?

Or, if April 26 doesn't work for your company, schedule it for a more convenient date--perhaps in the summer when the kids are out of school.

Details and ideas to plan your day are posted here. For example, ask the children to post their experiences and pictures to the ICP Facebook page. If you have questions or want to discuss possible ideas or activities, contact Mary Jawgiel.

Survey Reveals Hiring Woes

Recently ICP partnered with the NAW Institute for Distribution Excellence to conduct a joint survey which confirmed that distributors across the spectrum are facing hiring challenges. Other interesting findings: Distributors are competing with each other for workers right now, so it is incumbent on employers to get the hiring formula right to lure the best talent. ICP's bi-weekly  Talent Tipsheet provides useful ideas and stories regarding recruiting, hiring and managing young talent in industrial distribution. AmbassadorsRecent ICP Ambassador Webinar Focused on High School Student Recruitment

ICP Ambassadors are industry volunteers--people like you-- who are working in their local communities to spread the word about careers in industrial distribution. A recent ICP Ambassador webinar revealed some words of wisdom for those Ambassadors who are thinking of contacting a high school to make a class presentation. Tips include:
  • Contact a school counselor to explain what you are interested in doing (and explain industrial distribution to them),
  • Try and choose a date in the beginning of the school year--the students are more apt to pay attention,
  • If possible, ask the counselor to recommend students who would be interested (and not the entire class).

Job Board to Help Break Through Clutter of the Monsters Out There

ICP is focused on getting the word out about the career choice of industrial distribution to 18 to 34 year olds. A new ICP Job Board will allow interested job seekers to post their resumes and employers to post job openings as well as quickly search targeted resumes.
The ICP Job Board is scheduled to launch on June 30. Employment postings will be offered at a discount to PTDA member companies. Stay tuned for more information about posting your entry-level positions to the ICP Job Board.
